simply water weight.
Then you need to know how much weight loss is
actually fat, compared to muscle.
If your diet is causing you to simply burn muscle
(as the fad diets do, when they "fast") that’s not
'real' weight loss. You need to keep all the muscle
you have, as well as build more. Muscle helps burn
fat and helps increase your metabolism. So the
objective of your diet should be to lose fat – and
to lose it safely and efficiently.

because it makes you feel good and look good, but

Weigh yourself at the same time each day - I
recommend when you first wake up.

Weigh yourself with the same things on - I find
it’s best when nude.

Weigh yourself daily so you can get feedback on
your progress – but don't get "caught up" in the
ups and downs. Instead, learn how to interpret
what these gains and losses really mean. (For
example: Is the weight change a simple water
weight fluctuation or a real weight gain or
loss?)

Consider investing in a new scale - some newer
scales have a percent body fat measurement, so
you can focus on reducing your body fat rather
than you’re weight.

Use other ways of measuring as well – measure
your waist size, or how often you are
exercising, and how often you stray from your
diet.
